Commercial System Overview

In today’s fleet management world, of course the large fleets with the massive vessels and the large corporate IT resources enjoy the benefits of extending the internet to the vessel. Extending IT systems from the desk to the bridge. SkyMate does not have internet on board systems. For the rest of the market fleets and vessels were left with waiting until the ship docked, or an exception based Sat phone call to stay in touch.  SkyMate is a new option. A powerful fleet communications system at a cost that small and medium sized companies can afford.

What SkyMate does is expand management from the shore to the ship. What it provides is a means to objectively track in real time what is going on with the fleet and make plan adjustments accordingly. SkyMate provides business communications between ship and shore, everything from custom forms to SMS texts, and emails with small attachments. SkyMate provides IoT asset management between the office and the vessels hundreds and thousands of miles away, let you monitor fuel levels, engine data, gear usage, at sea idle times, etc.

For the captain and crew, SkyMate provides tools that enhance safety such as current weather updates, email alerts, and an SOS feature. It provides the tools to stay connected with the office and loved ones.

For those commercial fishing fleet operators, note that SkyMate has versions that are type approved in many jurisdictions as a Vessel Monitoring System (VMS). One tool for both internal use and regulatory reporting.

SkyMate has a simplicity of design that makes it easy to use, easy to install and easy to service.   It is driven by open standards principals. Use your own software, connect the shore to your IT system with APIs, customize forms for data capture, add a sensor of your choice or design to monitor or control remotely. Onboard, use any or many user interface devices, the smartphone or tablet, an onboard laptop or PC system and  even one of the many MFDs that support the SkyMate user interface.

When you talk to your SkyMate dealer you will quickly see the simple return on investment and the manageable scale of the investment that makes SkyMate a very unique, powerful new management tool for the small and medium sized commercial fleet.

m1600 System Features

POSITION REPORTING

The m1600 system provides continuous, global surveillance and can be configured:

  • to report at a range of intervals (minutes to days)

  • to report at variable rates (e.g. in-harbor, at-sea, geo-fence)

  • to report with a standard or advanced format (includes SOG, COG)

  • to record positional data (available for interrogation)

  • over-the-air

The position reporting  communications protocol is closed and secure (absolutely no spoofing).

All position reporting data is available on our online map-based service SkyTracker.website SkyTracker gives fleet managers and shipowners the ability to know exactly where their vessel are and where they have been.

electronic forms

With reliable, global satellite connectivity, the m1600 is able to sent and receive electronic forms at anytime, from anywhere. This system will allow users to transmit forms to the shore, and helps increase the efficiency of billing and information flow.

Value-added Features

EMAIL AND SMS

The m1600 can be used to send and receive emails anywhere in the world.  The Communications Hub has its own SMS phone number, allowing two-way texting, when offshore, to any other SMS device on shore, over the satellite connection.

WEATHER

Through the browser UI, the m1600 will provide global weather, on demand, for any location at sea.  For example, the Point Forecast weather reports include wave heights, wind speed/direction, barometric pressure and temperature.

SOS EMergency notification system

By activating the SOS function (via the KeyPad) the m1600 notifies your emergency contacts of an SOS. While the SOS is active, the m1600 continually reports the vessel position to your emergency contacts.

SENTRY REMOTE MONITORING

The m1600 sentry accessory provides the user to have up to 16 sensors monitored.  These sensors can be monitored by a set of rules such that when a sensor event happens, and email or SMS is sent (emergency notifications).  Sentry also provides a daily status report of the sensors configured.

m1600 Commercial System Hardware

m1600 Commercial System Hardware

The m1600 hardware is user friendly and very easy to install (DIY) and operate.  It’s plug-and-play right out of its eco-friendly box.

The system works with any UI device that has a web browser.  You just Wi-Fi connect your device to the m1600, point your browser to the m1600 (mseries.online) and you are in.  The Wi-Fi password is your security; after you first connect, there is no login required.  The SI-TEX Navstar and Raymarine Axiom MFDs can also be used to connect to the m1600.

The KeyPad provides the user an indication whenever there is an message (email or SMS) waiting to be viewed.  When the UI device connects and views the message the light goes out.  When Sentry is installed, the Sentry button allows the user to engage/disengage the Sentry monitoring. When the SOS is activated (both buttons need to be pressed and held simultaneously) the system will continue to run even if external power fails or is disconnected.  A full description of the KeyPad operation is available under Support a documentation.

The LEDs on the Communications Hub provide status of the system.  A full description of the LEDs is available under
Support - Documents.
